William Faichney

William Faichney was born in Dunblane around 1803 although there is no birth record to confirm this.  We are told his parentage in his death record though and this helps us locate their marriage, as below.

William Faichney Weaver at the Muckle-burn and Jean Innes in Feddal

There are a few isolated farms on the Muckle Burn, which flows into the Allan Water a few miles north-east of Dunblane.  Feddal is just outside Braco, the site of a Roman Camp, and just a mile away from Muckle Burn.

William married twice and although we have no record of the first marriage we do know he had four children before he married Ann Tinnock, around 13 years his junior, and had another six with her.  Ann was from Ayrshire, a long way to come, but once again we can't definitely identify her birth record.  It seems all Tinnocks, Tennocks and Tunnocks originated from Ayrshire, so this must have as well.

William started out as a metal grinder but is a wood turner in most subsequent records.

Interestingly, the two children born before Ann came on the scene that we can find birth records for are born to Mary Reid and Mary Wright. Why the two names? Are they different mothers? Mary in both suggests it's likely they're the same person but Reid and Wright is an interesting combination of names, suggesting literacy!
